WOODCRAFT Magazine, a subscription-based publication that focuses on mass-appeal woodworking projects, techniques, and products, is seeking an Associate Editor with a passion for woodworking. You need at least 2 years professional experience writing and editing, a passion for woodworking and tool use must also be evident via examples. Self-motivation, resourcefulness and time-management are critical skills.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
EDIT - May include generating stories from scratch or working with outside woodworking experts and management of manuscripts, illustrations, photos and other materials. Of utmost importance are technical accuracy, strong editorial concept and clarity of prose. The associate follows an articles development from idea to finished page.
WRITE - On assignment from the editor, the associate editor researches and writes articles on topics of interest to the readers. This may involve travel, phone and library research.
ADVISE - Associates are expected to introduce new ideas and editorial projects that will help the magazine serve its readers.
Essential Position Qualifications
- Knowledge of woodworking
- Excellent proofreading, researching, verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail, ability to work independently and meet deadlines, ability to multitask and prioritize job duties
- PC Computer skills to include Microsoft Word. InDesign and Photoshop experience helpful, but not required.
- 4-year college degree
- Experience working with photography and technical illustrations a plus
